Better Late is a set of five weekly interactive sessions that ask older people to think about questions of identity and purpose and to create stories and photos that bring those ideas to life.
The Better Late workshop gathers 8-15 people for a series of five meetings. Each has a particular theme and a set of guided questions. Participants not only talk over these prompts, but outside the sessions, they write down responses and importantly find or develop images that help them explain their points of view visually.
These stories and images are shared and discussed in subsequent sessions and ultimately posted online. They shine a light on each person’s perspective not only on their current, but their past and future selves.
As part of our exploration, we use personality archetypes identified by gero-psychiatrist Mark Agronin's The End of Old Age, to help participants understand their late life experience according to five distinctive roles: the Savant, the Sage, the Curator, the Creator, and the Seer. Ultimately, the workshop enables people to develop a practical vision for how they can create greater meaning and purpose in their lives today and going forward.
